Miles To Date:
8 698

Here it is: the last day of our travels, and it definitely doesn’t seem like its two months since we arrived in New York City! The main thing we did this morning was go for brunch with the family. We went to a really nice local deli, where we got fresh chicken soup and sandwiches. It was sad when we were finished, since it was time to say goodbye to Maxine and Lindsey.

When we got back to the house we spent most of the early afternoon packing and getting ready for the airport. We had to pack an extra case because we bought so much between us, and that was after having to leave quite a few things behind! Once we were ready, we spent some time with Jan and Randy before saying our goodbyes and heading for the airport.

The drive to LAX was very straightforward, and it was weird to think that after so many thousands of miles, it was finally the last time we would be in the car. As for the drop off - it was very simple and we were soon on a shuttle to the airport. My memories of previous trips to LAX were that it had a large shopping area. However, I was either wrong or had never been to terminal 2, since after passing reasonably quickly through security (my guidebooks apparently looked enough like bricks of drugs that I had to watch my case being searched), we found that there was only one tiny duty-free shop and a couple of diners. As a result, sitting around for 3 hours +45 minutes delay was less than amusing.

I’ve written this while three hours into the ten hour flight, but hopefully by the time its posted we will be safely at home. Its been an incredible trip and we want to say a big thank you to all the family that has had us to stay. Also thank you to everyone who has been following the blog and leaving comments – sorry we haven’t been replying properly but we have really enjoyed reading them. Another post may follow in the coming days with some more concluding remarks.
