Miles To Date:
8 427

The title could only be a reference to Disneyland, which was our main destination today. Specifically we visited the Magic Kingdom, and we left bright and early to make the most of the day. The drive took us right through a typical Los Angeles rush hour, with it taking around 2 hours to drive the 60 miles to Anaheim. Interestingly the traffic constantly moves but only at about 20mph. When compared to the stop/start, unpredictable movements and roadwork's of a road like the M25 it seemed very easy!

Once we got to the park we decided to explore the zones in a clockwise order. Our first stop was Adventure Land where the main ride we went on was Indiana Jones. Despite the warnings of a rough ride I managed to convince Lauren to come on with me, and it proved to be quite a scary experience for her! After, we moved on to New Orleans Square where we boarded a raft over to the island on the lake. It takes on a pirate theme and we explored the trails and caves before returning to shore.

At this point we had a wander around Fantasyland and Mickey’s Toontown where most of the rides are aimed at young children. We did however go on It’s A Small World, and get to see the Disney princesses and Bert from Mary Poppins. Next we took a ride on the Disneyland Railroad to Tomorrowland. Its home to Space Mountain and an interesting exhibit about what homes will be like in the future. We spent quite a long time in the latter, which apparently was one of Walt Disney’s favourite bits of the park. Updated significantly since his death in the 1960s, it featured working technology such as an interactive mirror which lets you try on virtual outfits, and an ASIMO robot. Our final stop in Tomorrowland was the Buzz Lightyear ride, where targets must be shot at with a laser while a cart goes around a track. It was good fun and we went on it twice to see if we could beat our previous scores.

Once we left Tomorrowland we visited the Tiki room on the way out – something I remember being a favourite when I was younger! We had then seen most of the park quicker than planned due to there being almost no queues. We therefore headed to Downtown Disney to explore the shops and grab some dinner. Tomorrow we are going to visit Disney’s California Adventure.
